Founded in 1997 by former Trace Elliot managing director Mark Gooday, Ashdown Engineering quickly secured its place in rock history with its innovative bass amps. Drawing on his extensive experience and passion for bass tone, Gooday launched Ashdown with the vision of creating superior bass amplifiers. Feedback from renowned bassists like John Entwistle (The Who) and Mark King (Level 42) informed the design of Ashdown’s first product, the ABM (Ashdown Bass Magnifier). Built initially by Gooday and his family at home, these amps set new standards in tonal flexibility, power, and reliability, quickly gaining favor with top musicians and featuring prominently on major stages worldwide.

Ashdown's success continued as it expanded its product range to include tube and hybrid amps, practice amps, FX pedals, and studio monitors. Mark’s son, Dan Gooday, who grew up immersed in the industry, now leads product development alongside electronics engineer Dave Green. Their commitment to innovation and design ensures Ashdown remains a leading name in bass amplification, catering to players of all levels from beginners to professional artists.
